Lawton/ Ft. Sill Armed Forces Parade

Charlie Wright registered the Medicine Park Marauder's with the Medicine Wagon for parade. With over 140 entries this was the biggest Armed Force parade ever. We captured 3rd place in the small nonprofit category but first place in the hearts of the spectators. How can we make it better next year? First Lawton could provide portopotties at the staging area and a clearer escape route. And maybe we can learn the right words to the Marauder's song. We have other ideas but we don't want to give away the surprise for next year.

Did anyone get pictures? If you email them to me I will post with credit to photographer, of course. Thanks

Oh, the People That You'll Meet

as reported by Muriel (Little Britches) Fahrion

It’s been all over the news, at least the local news, about the soldiers and families from Ft. Bliss visiting the Lawton,
Southwest Oklahoma area in preparation for the movement of the Air Defense Artillery School and the ADA brigades currently stationed at Fort Bliss to Fort Sill. Lottie Jay from Ft Sill Stationing Mgt office, working closely with Kevin Johnson of Lawton, contacted Mayor Dwight Cope who set Lee Hibbetts and Jane Thompson on the mission to put the events together.

Medicine Park’s part of this welcoming was twofold 1. Hand out information for our housing and community. I know Mike & Lee Hibbetts, Jane Thompson and David & Candace McCoy did this with gusto. And 2. Have the Marauders come out and greet them at the Old Plantation.

Parkies are nothing if they’re not welcoming and without guns for the first dinner of over 100 guests of military, civilians and spouses and with guns ablazing for the military big guns Thursday nights gathering we were at the Old Plantation. Lee Hibbetts, the director that she is, entranced the guest with extemporaneous chatter to set the stage for the outlaws of the Marauders, Charlie Wright, Mark Somerlott, Hank Sabine and Muriel Fahrion (yours truly) to start the ruckus on the premise the outlaws were making illegal withdrawals from Texas. After holding the Generals as captive for a few moments the Marauder’s law, Michael Fahrion, Odus Hennessee and Lee Green stepped in and the gunfight ensued. Once our guest were seated for dinner. We handed out mini wanted posters for the capture of the Marauders (some tried to collect them all) and the Marauder’s lawman deputized willy-nilly.

The photos are courtesy Jessica Hennessee with her handy camera there to capture the moments. They were some faces we knew from our neighbors at Ft. Sill and some that were new to us from Ft. Bliss. Hopefully some will choose to find residence in the Park but most likely we will meet most of these folks again in the Park just kicking back on their free time.

Special thanks those store owners who opened their stores for this special event.
