Medicine Park Friends Support our Troops

post by Muriel, photos by Clark Brown & Big Rock Works.click inage for larger picture

The gathering began at 6:50 PM at the Park Tavern with Lee Hibbetts and Jeannette Patty getting everything ready. Soon the contributors, Medicine Park Friends of Charley Company 949 BSB, came bearing gifts. They brought everything on Charley Company’s wish list and then some, eleven boxes full in fact. With a very little direction teams began to form. There was box assembly team, packing team, note writing team, shipping form writing department and the capture in pictures crew. The zaps of positive energy could be felt. The whole deal took no more than an hour to complete. Charley Company is scheduled to be in Iraq for 18 months and their Medicine Park Friends will continue to send packages periodically. We feel it is something we can do to show appreciation and support.
To all those who gave and participated, thanks. If you didn’t get a chance or heard about it too late and wish to be a part you can contact Lee Hibbetts.

Note: I walked by a few MP citizens who are not online and hadn't heard about the benefit. I filled them in. Please take a few minutes to call anyone who may not have heard. Also if you are not able to attend but have a few items to donate give them to someone who is going or drop them off between 7:00 - 7:30 tonight at the Park Tavern. If you forgot you can always pick a few items at the Dollar Store.

That Was the Two Weeks that Were

We've been in Ohio to see family for the last two weeks. In a small town a lot or very little can happen in two weeks. Here's what I have found out since our return:
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
Two of our much admired and loved locals have passed away, Albert McKenzie Sr. a career fireman for Lawton and Johnny Martin Hocutt a long time local legend and cowboy singer. Two of Albert's sons, Albert Jr and Mike, are volunteer firefighters for Medicine Park. The McKenzie family is part of the strength of Medicine Park and generously volunteer and participate in too many Medicine Park activities to even count. My husband and I only got to know Albert Sr. three years ago. I feel lucky to have met Albert Sr. and to been able to sit and have conversation and coffee with him and his adored wife Puddin. Many of you know Johnny Hocutt, I however only got one chance meeting with him. So your comments and rememberances would be appreciated. You can just add to the CHAT column.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
We heard that winner of the trout fishing tournament caught an eight pounder. Once again we like to hear the details. Leave a comment or email me the information.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
And this year's Chili Cook Off was the biggest ever with 18 entries! (So Michael Fahrion wasn't here to defend his title or take pictures. Seeing his Mom in Ohio took precedent.) Some newbies won. And yes Parkies we need names, pics and details on this event too. Leave a comment or email me the information.

Before we left we attended the Tavern Halloween Party and the Les & Dora's, Charley Wright Halloween Party. (Click Tavern for Pictures from the party). I went as a 1940's Medicine Park Tattler Reporter and Michael went as the companion photographer.
