Walk the Streets of Medicine Park on Google

That’s what I am talking about. Google keeps improving their maps. Now you can virtually walk down the streets of Small Town Medicine Park however you will find it labeled incorrectly when you zoom in to street shots. Many of the streets are mislabeled and/or spelled wrong and they are identified as being in Lawton. We are figuring out Big Rock was photographed in early Spring this year based on what homes are there and what is in the process of construction. I was a cloudy day on the Rock but other parts of town have a clear sky. Town center was photographed before Bliss Boutique set up shop. It is during the week because our town hall staff’s cars are there. There are a few random workers and a couple coming back from a walk in the Wildlife Refuge.

In order to move around the map you must grab and drag the little man to a place on the map. To close chose X in corner. FYI satellite view (birds eye view) is about 5 years old, street view is about 1 year old.

The funny thing is that there are larger towns that there are no street scenes. Maybe they are not as cool as Medicine Park. But most probably Google and its affiliates haven’t reached their neck of the woods. So follow the link and check it out. You might want to send it to your clients, friends and family. It is pretty easy to find your way around. Just click on the little orange man and place him where you want to start walking. That will bring you to a street scene where you can follow the arrows but clicking on the direction you wish to go.

White House Ornament by MP Artist

photo by Photo by Joyce N. Boghosian
Yes, Denise Wynia-Wedel (Denise and James own Cobblestone Galleries here in the Park) was honored to be chosen to create an ornament for the White House Christmas tree. We are proud to know her and are not surprised knowing her amazing talent. Her ornament was a portrait of Will Rogers.

from the El Reno Tribune......

Wynia-Wedel had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C., for a holiday artists reception, during which the first lady announced the Christmas theme of A Red, White and Blue Christmas and congratulated the artists.

“It was such a great honor to be selected to paint a White House ornament. The invitation to the White House and the opportunity to attend the reception is a once-in-a-lifetime event,” Wynia-Wedel said. “Then, to top that, my ornament was placed on the tree in a prominent location, where it can be seen from the entrance of the room. Wow!”

When you see Denise be sure to congratulate her.

A Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays

Muriel and Michael Fahrion as Mrs. & Mr. Dickens and Mark Somerlott as Rattlesnake Bill ride on the winning float a antique carriage pulled by a Vintage Oliver Tractor owned by a member of the Antique Tractor Club which lead other members of the club along the parade route.

The temperature was in the 20’s with a wind gusts dipping the wind chill down into the single digits. The skies were overcast in Medicine Park but not the spirits as the Christmas Parade went off as scheduled. Although Charley Wright was the organizer, he was as usual, conspicuously absent from Parade. No one is quite sure where he disappears when the parade begins but I am sure he would tell you that it was “the best Christmas parade ever”. The contents of parade like the temperature, varies year to year, with a little of the predicted and some not so predictable. Of course the star is the REAL Santa driving his sporty little red convertible. Accompanying him this year was the winsome and popular Missus Claus. Instead of reindeer, the elves were the ones that were “so lively and quick”. They romped and played before the parade but then jumped on the wagon (pulled by Vice Mayor, Odus) with the 8 foot Chance McQuacken in Santa hat. McQuacken's caretaker wore a cozy Tweety Bird hat. Sound effects and colors Red and Green was added thanks to the Antique Tractor Club of Southwest OK. A green Oliver tractor pulled an old carriage all decked out with bow, flags and lights waiting for just the right passengers. Then like someone sprinkled some magic dust, two characters out of a Dickens novel showed up and took the seats. Luckily there was a spare Marauder, Rattlesnake Bill, to be their body guard since the changed Ebenezer Scrooge was tossing out (chocolate) coins like he was made of money. The Mayor on motorcycle, a team of Medicine Park volunteer firefighters (one in the truck and one on a scooter) and a police cruiser kicked off the parade.

And like any topnotch parade it had it's share of princesses. Our princesses were as special as the parade, they were of Native American royalty. The beauties waving from their cars were the Junior Indian Princess of Oklahoma, Miss Indian Oklahoma and Miss Indian America! They had their smiles & waves down perfectly.

Just when we thought that it would be too cold and windy for an audiences the parade went through town center and dozens of kiddies and their families, shopkeepers and neighbors lined the road in Town Center. Candy was grabbed up as fast as it was thrown. Little children jumped with joy as Santa and Mrs. Claus passed by. And yes, our little parade with the biggest heart, was captured by Channel 7 in Lawton. The parade stopped at Santa's Angel Shoppe to let Santa out into his igloo so he could take more request from the good little girls and boys who lined up.

Christmas Caroling Medicine Park Style

Christmas caroling turnout was so respectable, that at times, we were literally singing to the choir but Merry nontheless! This reporter joined the wagon pulled by Blitzen, the firetruck driven by Volunteer firefighter Albert McKenzie with designated music director Vykie McEwen. The lead firetruck Dasher, driven by Volunteer firefighter Mike Hibbetts, featured Lee Hibbetts as designated music director (thanks Lee for providing song lyrics). Those in Blizten were serenaded by the young talented duo of Savannah Cope and her cousin. Santa rode atop our fire engine and waved to the onlookers. A special guest appearance, stepping out of the 19th century, was Charles Dickens (Michael Fahrion) in top hat and waistcoat. It was said that all were in high spirits and very good voice indeed.

"A merry Christmas to every-body!
A happy New Year to all the world! "

Following the town caroling our journey complete we gathered at the Park Tavern where we shared in homemade stews, soups, cakes and cookies topped with a heaping serving of friendship. See slideshow here. and click on the picture of Dickens.

Old Fashioned Christmas Weekend Medicine Park

posted by Muriel Fahrion
This weekend is an Old Fashioned Christmas Celebration in the Park. So come join us (Michael and I will running with the Marauders). See the lights, here the music and enjoy the most unique shopping experience you’re likely to experience. We think we have the right idea here, keeping Christmas and holidays on a personal level including Santa (the real deal).

We’ve begun our shopping in Medicine Park by stopping by the Medicine Park Ice Cream and Candy Company and sampling then selecting fudges to give family members. That little (okay maybe not that little) old (and not so old) fudge maker has been VERY busy this season. The secret is out and those in the candy know are putting in large orders and yet Lee Green took time out to describe his latest creations for the season and have us taste test. We chose the pumpkin, butterscotch, cherry chocolate and chocolate orange. Fudges. Michael also sampled their flavored ice cream and could see why people are buying it by the gallon. We could smell the stew as it wafted through their shop as Connie Green readied for lunch customers.

Doolin says....The Raspberry Leopard has dog stuff too!

Obviously we will pick up a bottle or four of wine at Winery of the Wichitas for hostess gifts and for ourselves. Then there is the biker accessories we will need to pick up for our family bikers at Chaps My Ass. Moving on down the road we’ll mosey into Lulabelles for some hot salsa and sassy dips. The Rusty Buffalo offers some rustic Western décor and accessory pieces to give the people on your gift list a souvenir from the Park. The Laughing Lizard has some wonderful nature and Native American themed gifts that will fit nicely under the tree or in a stockings for all ages. The Raspberry Leopard on the other hand covers the glitz and glamour quite well thank you. (Hint: guys I don’t think you can go wrong picking up a gift for the ladies in your life at the Razz). The Bliss Boutique for a Blissful Christmas collection of intriguing and soothing gifts. And one can’t have too many angels in your life, Charley’s Angel Shoppe with Santa’s Igloo out front.

Whew! Now that’s a lot of shopping! Take a break and eat at one of the Park’s tasty eateries or enjoy a cup of coffee and pastry. But wait there is more…The Cobblestone Forge awaits you with iron wonders created by Larry Morefield. Last year we purchased a leaf pendant from the Forge last year and the hip, very particular San Franciscan loved it! And the wrought iron cricket, a present from my husband, has a special place on my hearth. Linda Morefield will have plenty of Avon stocking stuffers there as well. And I know they’ll have yummy treat there as well.

And who says you have to decide or even wrap something up? Gift certificates are available. Talk about stocking stuffers see how happy you’ll make someone with a certificate for a massage from the Blissful Body! Or a getaway weekend at one of Medicine Park’s delightful cottages, cabins or B&B’s?

See you in the Park!
